FREE Steel Drum Music Camp!

Pan Camp & DAy of Pan Concert

For the fourth year running, Chops' Pan Outreach program presents an incredible and FREE experience in world music. Students will explore and learn the steel drum (pan) instrument, meet new people, and prepare for a performance with a mass steel-band concert and guest artist Dr. Josanne Francis!


Pan Camp Mon - Fri, August 4th - 8th

Rehearsals will be held at Anwatin Middle School in Minneapolis. Students will be split into three age groups: grades 4-7* will attend 9:00am - noon with lunch provided. Grades 8-12 will attend from noon-3pm with lunch provided. And back, by popular demand, our Adult Ensemble meets from 6 - 8 p.m.!

*Morning ensemble is FULL! Families may request that mature, younger students be placed in the afternoon ensemble - inquire with the director at info@panoutreach.org.

On Saturday, August 9th, students, families and guests can enjoy two FREE performances at Anwatin Middle School. Registered Pan Campers will enjoy a FREE catered dinner between the afternoon "informance" and the evening concert.

On Saturday, August 9th, 2025, Day of Pan Concerts @ Anwatin Middle School!

  • Free informational concert by renowned Pannist Dr. Josanne Francis @ 2:30 p.m., backed by local musicians on drum set, bass, guitar, keys, sax & tabla.

  • Sound check, free t-shirts, and free catered dinner for all registered Pan Campers.

  • Doors open at 6:00 p.m. at Anwatin Middle School for a 6:30 p.m. concert featuring Dr. Josanne Frances performing with all Pan Camp participants, three professional steel bands, and performers from the Women's Drum Center! Chops commissioned Dr. Francis to write a new tune just for our summer Pan Camp & Day of Pan - don't miss the world premiere of "Jump Out!" All events are chaperoned by staff and volunteers. All music rehearsals will be run by Pan Outreach educators. Staff/educator to student ratio will be approximately 6:1 for our youth ensembles. Each ensemble will be limited to 25 students on a first come, first served basis. Families may request that students of varying ages be placed in the same ensemble for convenience, with director approval.
