LAURA MURPHY(she/her)

Chair, Finance Committee

Laura Murphy joined the Chops Board because of her deep commitment to serving non-profits and her life-long belief that music education in schools is integral to making our community a vibrant place. Growing up in rural Minnesota, she was never exposed to the type of programming CHOPS provides, however she was active in band, pep band, choir, show choir, and took piano lessons for over a decade.

Laura transitioned into non-profit management from a sales career in Corporate America in 2005 and hasn’t looked back since! She currently works for Enterprise Education Foundation as Vice-President and member of the Board of Directors. Laura is also a Substitute Teacher for Minneapolis Public Schools because she strongly values giving back to her community and leveraging her skill set helping non-profits and schools thrive.

Beyond Chops, she serves as the Governance Chair and Vice-President of RS EDEN, a North Minneapolis based social services non-profit committed to social justice and focused on providing our clients supportive housing and addiction/recovery services. She is also a member of the Board for the Alpha Kappa Psi Scholarship Fund after serving as their Executive Director for several years. Laura also serves on several local organization’s scholarship committees because she believes that reducing student’s debts from higher education is vital to help them excel in their future endeavors.

Laura lives in Minneapolis with her husband and daughter Merritt. In her spare time, she volunteers on the Site Council and as the Math Masters Coach at Kenwood Elementary, and coaches her daughter’s soccer, softball, and basketball teams. Laura enjoys architecture (especially Frank Lloyd Wright), skiing, travel and trip planning, and cheering on the Gophers and Twins.
