JALEN CHARLES (he/him)

Guest Artist, Pan Outreach Program

Jalen Charles is a musician from Trinidad and Tobago who started his musical journey at the age of ten. He joined his family band Sadiki (Stiks on Steel) where his love for music and the steelpan grew stronger. Eager to develop his skills, Charles became a member of the Invaders Youth Steel Orchestra as well as Invaders Steel Orchestra, where he performed in various competitions and festivals.
 

He went on to become not only the captain of the Youth Steel Orchestra but also the co-arranger. In February 2019, Charles became the youngest co-arranger to win first place in the National Junior Panorama Under-21 category in Trinidad and Tobago.

 

His passion for music and the steelpan led to travel to the United States as well as other Caribbean countries. Charles went on to obtain his Bachelor’s degree in Music with a specialization in Steelpan in 2021. He is currently pursuing his Master's degree in Music at Northern Illinois University.
